Below is part of Jorrell's recent message about snow-driving in an XC AWD vs his 245.
Do folks think 240s are good/ bad in snow?
When I had new 240s (late-80s) and nearly new 140s (late-70s, in New England) I thought they were decent. A RWD car that could go reasonably well with the right tires. Like most other RWD cars.
Now I'm driving an 87 244 w/ 202K and a 93 245 w/ 220K. Today I'm going to take the 87 ~40 miles into a hilly part of OH w/ ~ 3" snow and a little more coming down.
What I notice now is the cumulative effect of looseness: a tiny bit in the inner tie rod bearings, a tiny bit in the rear bushings, .... so that the car tracks on ice, ruts, snow patches, .... and just isn't comfortable at speed in slippery conditions.
And then there's that occasional grab on one front wheel - a sticky caliper, spot on a rotor.
I've had a couple of cars I redid w/ new bushings, steering rack, etc and they weren't much better.
I'll feel safe and get where I need to today. But I automatically drive slower than I would in a newer vehicle.

If I had been in Bleen, I would have pulled off the freeway at the first snowflake as I know how bad it is in the snow, the problem is I wouldn't have been able to check out five additional freeway exits at safe speed in the 240, it could not have handled the entrance and exit ramps in its current configuration.
... 92 245 250K miles, IPD'd to the hilt ...
