Does a bad Crank position sensor keep the car from giving the car fuel? 200 1990

Trying to solve a no start on a 1990 245. The car ran fine and then when tried to be started after leaving a house it just turns over with out starting. Changed out the 25 fuse, replaced the FI relay and jumped the pump. I almost think the in tank pump wasn't sounding but I then was for sure if it should run when jumping from 4 to 6. But the car engine light came on while on the freeway on the way to the house it wouldn't start at. The codes would not appear after unhooking the battery. I didn't get them in time and nothing was appearing from cranking the car. Thought maybe the CPS would show a code if I was cranking it? Anyways, I've got to jump the rear pump still.

Just wondering because there is no smell of fuel after all the cranking.
