965 Front Brake Pads 900 1996

There are 2 wires extending as a "V" from the greater radius of the pads on Girling front brakes. The wires are springy and seem to only push against the internal face of a cavity in the rounded part of the caliper, pushing the pads away from the curved internal part of the caliper. This seems to push the pads' inside edge to rub against the rotor hub. What is the function of these 2 wires?
Also, the caliper has a window through which we can see both pads' thickness. There is a thin piece of sheet metal partially covering that opening, and it can be removed - what is its purpose?
