hand brake indicator light gremlin 200 1987

I just recently installed the remotes switches of my power/ heated side mirrors on the handbrake console box and when checking of all the electrical connections, found out that the brake indicator light on the instrument cluster lights up when the key is turned to "ACC" and disappears when the engine starts with the handbrake engaged all the time.

The handbrake switch was sanded and sprayed a generous amount of WD 40, while the electrical wire that goes all the way to the instrument panel was also checked. We also tried removing the connection from the handbrake switch, the indicator light still goes on when the ignition key is turned to ACC and disappears when the engine starts to idle.

Inputs on how to get over this electrical concern will be very much appreciated.
