Power Steering Fluid Level using ATF 200 1986

Saw the post about draining the fluid to change over to a different ATF and did not want to start a highjack thread. This is a general question about fluid level cold vs warm on the reservoir dipstick.

What is normal for a sealed ATF system level wise? There is most definitely a fluid expansion from a cold start check and after Inga gets warmed up.

The rack was rebuilt locally last August, the lines and pump were flushed. She is now running ATF IV fluid. When checked cold the fluid is right on the Min mark. Check her after a 30 mile drive and the fluid level is just under the Max level.

I am "Assuming" that this is normal. But before the rack seals blew out did not notice much of a level change from cold to warm. That was not ATF in the lines back then, most likely it was a combo of power steering fluid and Lucas stuff.

Nothing is leaking, groaning, or not working. Just wondering if anyone else saw a level change cold to hot.

Regards,

Paul
