New Clutch Cable = Impossible to Operate Clutch? 200 1983

So when I moved the M46 from my '75 (which it was transplanted TO originally), to my '83, I decided to replace the clutch cable since the one in the '75 is 34 years old. I got a ScanTech unit and installed in the new car. I did NOT change the clutch/t-o bearing/PP as they were all recent installs in the car this trans came from. Since installing and adjusting the clutch, the actuation pressure required is astronomically higher than it was in the '75 and actually feels like the cable is rubbing hard near full extension. Do these cables require lubrication when installed? Clutch takeup and freeplay are set correctly but the force required to operate the clutch is unbearable. I'm thinking of moving the old clutch cable over, but are there any other things I should look at before doing this? Keep in mind the pedal assembly was also brought over from the '75. The hole for the clutch cable was drilled in the firewall at the same location as it was on the '75 and I've verified that it is a straight shot from where the cable meets the firewall to the clutch arm and is not pulling down/sideways or anything like that.

Thoughts would be appreciated!

-Phil
