My Green Colleen (I know, Sweden is not Irish, but the name has personal charms) is blowing through a quart of Castrol 20/50 each 120 miles. The engine sat a long time (4 years) and has just been started up a couple months ago. Some blue smoke appears when the car has been sitting, engine still warm, and I restart it. Otherwise I see little smoke. I tried the sw-em MMO remedy for stuck oil rings, and didn't have luck that time. I'm about to try again, as the car will be sitting for a week anyway.
Meanwhile, some oil is showing around the valve cover. I suspect the PCV system is not doing its job. My line from the teardrop is running to the little vaccuum port that comes out of the base of the single Weber carb. Is this effective? Or do I need to drill a hole in the manifold and insert a tube fitting there, in order to have the right suction? When I got the car the PCV system was basically plugged into itself, with no suction anywhere.
I do want to fix the external oil loss, but I think there is more oil going out than appears around the engine. So I believe I have both problems, burning oil and leaking oil. She gets 23 mpg, runs pretty well. Plugs 3 and 4 come out brownish, 1 and 2 come out more black/gray but not oil-fouled.
