A/C Blowing Cold but not out the dash vents S90-V90 1998

For the last couple of weeks the A/C in my S90 has been puzzling me. In the beginning the air quit blowing from the dash vents during acceleration, vacuum leak I though. Later on, the air quit blowing out of the dash vent all together, still I am thinking vacuum leak. But by chance I turned the blower off and heard what it sounded like a damper motor moving (resetting), turned the blower back on and like magic air was once again blowing from the dash vents. Now I am thinking damper motor (apparently a PITA job to replace, from what I have seen on this board). This “resetting” work for a couple of days then, again, no air (just though the defroster vents).
Here is the puzzling part, a couple of days ago; out of the blue and while driving air started flowing from the dash vents, with no human intervention. This “self fix” was short lived since on the following start-up the A/C failed to return air to the dash vents. This “self fix” has happen twice since that original time for a short period of time, neither of the times was I able to hear any noise (Damper Reset).
So I would like to solicit the board’s input in this matter. Has anyone run into this issue? And, what was the fix? Everything I has seen to this point fails to describe my problem or lead me to a possible solution.
