Bad alternator - temp gauge quit. Correlation?

This may sound crazy.

I am pretty sure I read that when your alternator quits, it can show up in a gauge malfunctioning / quitting.

My temp gauge stopped working suddenly, and now I am pretty sure my alternator is out. I pulled the hot side of the battery and the car died, supposedly a definite sign - bad alt.

Am I crazy ...or did I read this?

It is a 94 940t w/298k.

Thank you.
