Blower Motor Failure (possibly) 200 1989

Having replaced the blower motor in my other Volvo about six years ago, I know what an ordeal it can be.

However, I do wonder if this circumstance may be different. Last time, the end of the blower motor came with the raspy death rattle that many veteran owners dread.

This time, however, there were no loud noises. It's just that one day, I turn on the switch and nothing happens. Checked the fuse and it's OK. Could it be something as simple as the resistor and/or the switch? Or is 20 years the likely lifetime of one of these suckers?

Oh, and I'm no longer a spring chicken and am not looking forward to shade-treeing this job.
