A fellow Volvo 240 fanatic several states away was telling me he'd powder-coated the rotors on his 240 just for cosmetic reasons, to make them a different color. It was at the end of a phone call and I didn't have a chance to ask him for details. And I don't expect to get him on the phone again.
Has anyone ever heard of this, and can this actually work, without any compromising of the braking performance?
I'm guessing the powder coating on the surface where the pads do their business would be quickly rubbed off, and the surface would go back to its original finish, leaving the rest of the rotor whatever color they'd been powder-coated.
Sounds intruiging, but too good to be true, perhaps? I don't recall ever seeing this in person on any car, but maybe I just haven't been looking?
