I'm in the process of toying with the idea of making a wooden gearshift for my 245. I have an extra gearshift knob I "got" from the JY, so I'm using that as a model.

As of right now, I have two prototypes done. V1 and V2. V1 was just to see if I could even do it. V2 I did tonight, with the holes proper for the OD button and the depth needed for the cap (with the #'s on it).

I have a hole drilled through the whole thing (mostly to see if it's possible) and it looks pretty nice. I want to end up using Cherry as my wood of choice (I'm currently using Ash and Oak), but I have some issues/questions/need for suggestions.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can get the cap to stay in place without gluing it down? I already know how to keep the OD button/switch in place.

How about coming up with a way to keep the knob itself on the shifter? I know the original knobs have a slot in them, but I'm not sure how to replicate that in the gearshift I'm making, outside of ripping it out of my donor gearshift knob, and somehow placing it in the wooden one.
