Off and on over the past few months, I've been treating the trim on our 92 245 with Forever Black. I have included two pictures, one with no forever black (passenger side of car), and one with forever black (driver side). Please note that both sides of the upper belt molding were already done.
Now for the warnings about using this stuff, beyond what is printed on the label (which you should read):
1: It will stain a Formica counter top black if it comes in contact with the wet product. I have not been able to find a way to remove the stain.
2: It will stain painted surfaces like fenders/doors, it can be removed with soap, water, towel, and a ton of elbow grease. So tape off around the trim you want to use forever black on.
3: Tail light lenses will be permanently stained by forever black.
Now for the more positive things and what results to expect. On rough trim like the upper belt molding and the trim strips on the bottoms of the 240 doors, it will take two coats to get an excellent result. Beyond that, at least on the belt molding/trim, I applied forever black 3 months ago and there is no discernible fading.
The mud flaps will require four coats as will the bumpers. If you choose to do the gray trim between the rear wheels and the rear bumper, six coats is a minimum.
I find the end result to be very acceptable, actually better than I had hoped! Does the end result look as good as new trim pieces??? No, but you won't be able to tell until you're closer than two feet away! A rough estimate of time would be 6 hours per side trim and 3 hours per bumper. I suspect that forever black is available from multiple sources, I got ours from IPD pn# FB080.
