Need a bit of assistance ....
79 242 N/A K-Jet 101K miles M46 manual and running rather poorly.
While house-hunting a while back my 242 seemed to be running like a dog after a few stops. I figured it was from all the starts and stops while visiting the different homes in my area. It is rather hilly but she's handled it before.
I checked for vaccum leaks and replaced a few bad looking hoses and replaced the injector seals immediately, since they were leaking badly. While doing the seals I cleaned the throttle body and checked for any more leaks. None to date. However, she was still running like crap so I went further and replaced the plugs, plug wires, coil wire, distributor cap, rotor, thermostat and fuel filter.
I checked her timing and replaced the cold start injector, auxiliary air valve, fuel pump relay and she is still running like crap but only after warm up. She runs perfectly before fully warm and after the cold start kicks in but drive her for 5 to 10 miles and she bogs down again.
One day I noticed her running hot one morning and pulled over to find the water in the expansion tank darn near empty. I figured it was a leaky cap and replaced both the expansion tank, cap and hoses flushed the old coolant and refilled her. I could find no water inside or outside the vehicle after that refill. I'm waiting to see if this water disappears again.
I did notice, since the exp tank repair, some white smoke in the mornings but it goes away after she warms up. When she's running like crap more white smoke and then she's running kind of lumpy. The idle is fine but its lumpy.
She starts right away in the mornings and idles like crap for a bit, but then picks up with a bit of mild throttling. I've checked the injector flow and all is within spec. I even checked the cold start and it's within spec too.
My last thing to check is the fuel pressures. I hear the main pump but I'm not sure if I hear the pre-pump.
Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated.
