My timing belt broke on my 1991 940SE. At least I think... she just stopped running for my wife, she said the oil light came on, then the engine shut off, luckily just a few blocks from home. Of course it's 15 degrees outside! Anyways, it turns over, but after looking in the oil fill cap, the lifters are not moving, and the engine sounds noticeably different when turning over.
So, I pushed her home with my Saab 9000, the bumpers line up really close, I only had to give her a shove about 6-7 times to get her into the driveway and into the garage. My neighbors think I'm nuts anyway!
I ordered a new belt, will have it in the morning. Then will begin taking the top timing cover off, anyone have advice on what to do, what NOT to do?
The procedure found on this site specifically says: Do not rotate the crankshaft, camshaft or auxiliary shaft with the bolt removed.
What bolt are they talking about? How do I line everything up without rotating the crankshaft, camshaft and auxiliary shaft? They will obviously be misaligned with a broken belt.
Thanks! Wish me luck!
