B21, B23, B230 engines

I understand that all B230 engines are interference designs, i.e., if you break the timing belt, there will be internal engine damage. Is this true? Also, I have heard that one should stay away from B230 low friction engines. What year models had them. Am thinking about replacing my 82 with something that has lower miles.
