This weekend I ran over a concrete chunk on a poorly maintained city street. The chunk looks like a piece of square solid concrete column, several inches on a side and about 16 inches long. It was big enough to smash the plastic belly pan and badly bend the lower sections of the front cross member. As the car bounced and slid over the concrete chunk, some other suspension flange surfaces were scraped and bent but the worst damage seems to be at the front cross member. Im thankful that it missed the oil pan, tranny pan, exhaust system, fuel tank and differential housing.
For sure the front cross member has to be replaced. Does anyone know how big a job this is ? I assume the power steering rack has to come out and the engine has to be supported since the front motor mounts are attached to the cross member.
Are 740 (1991 and newer) and 940 front cross members the same ?
Thanks,
Mike
