removing headliner adhesive from sunroof panel

Uhhhh... So here's the deal:
I have the fabric and I'm stuck at my mom's for two weeks. I plan to tackle the headliner replacement in the next few days and my sunroof ate it last summer.
I bought a new sunroof panel to get the worm-gears and I figure I will replace the material on it before hand because it will cut the time it takes and I can just swap in the new one.
I pulled off the fabric (in one piece so I can use it as a pattern) from the metal sunroof board.
Problem is, how do I get this $#@% adhesive off? Neither 70% (weak, I know) alcohol, nor acetone (nail polish remover) will take it off as of yet... It looks like some heavy duty tape, but it's like half a millimeter thick.
Anyone know what else I could use? paint thinner is my next thought, even if it takes the finish off the metal board, it's not going to be visible. I've also tried a razor blade, and that is not too hideous, but it leaves residue and is quite hard in the awkward places.

Any help would be appreciated.
Will
