1992 740T Speedo/Odo/Cruise Trouble 700 1992

1992 740 Turbo Wagon, Initially cruise control would engage, gain speed then disengage, now nothing at all. About the same time the speedometer began to fluctuate intermittently. Finally after the cruise failed, the speedometer and odometer failed all together. No ABS light, connections at rear of cluster and stalk look good. Vacuum servo holds air, no cracked/split vacuum lines that I can find. Brake light switch and wiring to the vacumn pump motor appear to be fine. The rear differential speedo sensor wires at the sensor were not cut but insulation on both wires was essentially gone due to the safety strap. I don't have a my meter here with me so I haven't been able to check the sensor or wire continuity. If either the sensor or the wiring from the sensor to speedo is bad would this explain both the cruise control and speedometer/odometer problems, or are they likely to be seperate issues? If the two wires at the speedometer sensor touched with the insulation removed, which most likely they have would this have blown/fried something in the system? Thanks in advance..
