Hello-
It appears that I most likely have a coolant temperature sensor issue, based on the progressively worse symptoms over the past 4 weeks with the overnight temps dropping (VERY RICH 1st A.M. start/idle...then after couples minutes runs/starts/idles perfectly the whole day). 1984 B23F, LH. I do not have have the knowledge to fix this myself and am having my car towed to my Indie Volvo shop on Monday. If it is the ECT, would it be cheaper/wiser to have them clean (labor time/money) or just replace the fuel trap & hoses? It's probably never been done. Since I'll be taking the proverbial monetary "hit", should I have anything else checked/replaced/cleaned while the intake manifold is off? Any gaskets/seals also? Any insights very much appreciated, as always.
It's supposed to be mid/upper 60s today, which normally was plenty warm to get her going...but I think the plugs are fouled/flooded from repeated starting attempts over the past few days, I smell fuel immediately upon cranking but no-start, and read in the FAQ that excess fuel can trash the catalytic converter, which I need like another hole in my head. I was thinking of pulling/cleaning the spark plugs and trying once more to start it, since today is the warmest it has been and will be before Monday...and I could save the $70 2-mile tow.
Thank you,
Russ
