Heater valve runs hot and cold 200 1993

The heater valve in my 93 seems to be different than those in older 240's. At times hot air pours from the vents, other times it's the same as outside air. The AC works, so I can turn it on when the air is hot, or open a window. The valve though seems to have a mind of it's own... In addition, it, or something nearby has a small leak. Coolant is leaking onto the floor.
Anyone messed with these valves? Any ideas why it would open and close on it's own?
