Still grasping at intermittent running straws 200 1983

I've had an ongoing intermittent running/not running problem with my '83 (B23F LH 2.0) that remains unsolved.

Here's what I've done so far to no avail. Replaced 25A fuse holder (waterproof version) and wiring. Replaced fuel filter, fuel hoses and both fuel pumps. Ran all tests suggested by "Lucid" to verify working fuel pumps. Tested and affirmed that all wiring to these components is sound. Tested both Fuel pump and main relays (these are the 2 identical small silver cubes). Cleaned and checked fuses at panel. Checked all ground connections on fuel rail. Spark is good. When in not-running mode it will quickly start, then quit with a burst of ether.

Problem seems to be fuel delivery related. Here's what it does. In many cases, but not all, it will start normally and run very smooth. When it does run, it runs beautifully - always. Then, without warning after a few minutes, it will just quit, as if I have turned off the key. In most cases, it will not restart for hours.

A volvo tech friend took the ecu (it's got the 503) apart and visually inspected it under magnification and reported that it looked okay, although I know this is not definitive proof that it's good. I performed a test recently where I jumpered the back side of the FPR at the blue-green wire with the other end to ground and it did start but did not continue running. That's all I can think of at the moment. Any new ideas? Thanks - Jim
