Blower fan switch about to fail? Switch replaceable as separate part from MCC unit? 900

Greetings:

I also posted this on the 700 board but thought I'd post it here as it applies to 940 cars as well. Any input is appreciated as always.

I have a '91 740 and wanted to see if anyone here has experienced this and what they did about it (if anything.)

My car has the manual air conditioning unit with rotary blower fan speed switch (late style found on 940s as well.) About a week ago, the fan switch action stopped having detents for each fan speed. The switch and fan still work on all speeds, but you have to use the numbers on the bezel as a guide because the detents no longer engage to stop the switch at each position. It just rotates smoothly through its travel.

Is this a sign that the switch is about to fail completely? Is the switch replaceable separately or do I have to replace the whole "MCC" unit in the dash? It looks like the complete "MCC" unit goes for about $169 - $199 remanufactured. I could not find the blower switch listed separately on FCP's or Eeuroparts web sites. Perhaps it is not available separately (?) I hope this is not the case.

Thanks for any experiences that anyone may have.
