Brick in question is newly acquired 88, 245 with 196XXX, auto. Brick sat for about a year. All worked well, as a brick should. About a week or so, aprox 300 mi, noticed charging (bat light) had a slight glow. Replaced voltage regulator/ brushes with OEM Bosch (has OEM Bosch 80 AMP alternator). Still had slight glow in charging light....really bright with heater/AC fan on high. Figured it may just be brushes seating. Nope. Swapped 88's alternator with one from an 89 (also swapped new regulator/brushes). Cleaned, and reset all fuses. No glowing charging/ bat light !! Head out for a day of highway fun, top up fuel, and off we go. Nope. About 1/2 mile out, charging/bat light comes on BRIGHT, Brick dies, as though the ignition was turned off. No restart. No dash lights, no clicks, no fuel pump sound, just the sound of my disappointment. Several tries of the ignition switch, and all's well. Drove about 60 + miles, parked. About an hour later, ready for return trip....NO START. No nothing...see above. Checked junction box (by battery), fuses, module by windshield washer bottle. All looks good (no crud). Again, just switching the ingnition switch on and off it started, died, started. But no instrument panel warning lights. Back at home base. Started every time...all dash warning lights on. Same this AM. Oh, forgot to mention PO had new ignition switch installed by reputable indy Volvo repair shop. Yeah, I wiggled connector, but no go. Any thoughts, suggestions greatly appreciated.
