Late last week I ordered an exhaust system for an 88 244. I was out of town until today and had planned to install the system this afternoon. I have the car for sale and someone contacted me mid week about looking at it. I was glad the exhaust system had showed up and the car would be ready to show tomorrow.
When I opened the parcel I found one of the brackets on the muffler was not attached on one end. I have attached a composite photo of the defective area. I pulled it away to show how the weld had never penetrated the lighter material, it was not evident that there was a defect until I did a little checking on the welds.
It is a Starla system (the Starla sticker is over top of a Walker sticker) and I purchased it from one of the popular internet suppliers who I have been dealing with for a number of years. I have no doubt they will make it right but it is disappointing to find such poor workmanship. It showed the country of origin to be SE. I don't know what country that might be. I have used Starla stuff in the past and have not been unhappy with it especially for the price.
I don't have any friends nearby that have a wire welder and I did not discover the problem until 4:00 this afternoon so I am stuck at this point until Monday morning. I would prefer to just have someone weld it as to have to do an exchange.
A bit of bad luck, and I just wanted to vent... At least I had not removed the old exhaust system before I discovered the problem, but I do not want to show the car with a leaky exhaust on it.
