Engine power on hills 700 1987

Hi folks,

I have noticed that, compared to a Honda Accord automatic, my 740GLE AW70 really loses power while going uphill. It's not that I mind, I just wonder why. I don't think I'm knocking (on 87 octane), it's just like I slow to a crawl. And on my rural, hilly geography, that happens a lot. If I add more pedal, it doesn't seem to improve the situation much (kickdown cable keeps my revs below 2500).

Most ignition components are new, and air filter too. Fuel delivery hasn't really been touched. My tranny isn't slipping (maybe the TC is bogging down... but that happens to any automatic). I have been tempted to switch to premium for a month and see if that improves my power and economy.

Thanks,

Ari
