muddy power steering fluid ?? 700

I am working on a recently obtained 90 740 wagon. The power steering seems a bit stiff and irregular going to the left but to the right it is fine. The power steering fluid looks very dark and muddy.
Obviously I will change the fluid asap and flush ias best I can, lock to lock with wheels off the ground.
Any other words of wisdom? The pump is not noisy but the contamination had to come from somewhere.
