A/C Failure! Ack! 700 1987

Hi all,

When I bought my 740 GLE this winter, I tested the A/C - and it blew cold. I tried out my A/C this afternoon, and it just blew air. I didn't notice the compressor come on, but I don't have enough experience to know. I have a couple questions for you folks:

What, exactly, has failed?

How can I check my components (condenser fan, etc.)?

Would I notice a drop in horsepower once my compressor engages?

Would I hear the compressor or condenser while I drive?
