I found a guy who can repair the Dana 27 axle from my 544. As recommended by people on this board, it is a shop that does axle repairs for 4 X 4s.

Looks like I'll need everything, ring, pinion, loaded carrier, bearings etc. I guess he's done some checking for parts directly from Dana / Spicer but is comming up short on parts for a 27 - no longer manufactured and not enough demand to warrant a new run. He thinks he may have to go for (but would prefer not to, and I agree) aftermarket parts.

Has anyone had experiences with aftermarket axle parts? Good or bad?
Who were the manufacturers?
