Hey,
As I gradually tighten up this old car (1990 740 GL) I'm thinking I'd like to keep her for a lot longer. The chassis is solid. But with 227k miles, the engine is tired. I'm wondering about an engine swap.
I'd like to just buy a reman'd engine and drop it in over a couple of weekends. Maybe a reman'd tranny at the same time.I am wondering if there's a commonly accepted 'these guys are the BEST' supplier for this sort of thing. And what the likely costs are.
I know a lot of people would just scrap a car whose BlueBook market value is below 2K when it comes time for a new engine. I don't think that way. If I can get another decade of use out of a car for a couple thousand dollars and a weekend's worth of work (albeit HARD work), then I don't care what KBB says. Cars aren't investments, they are expenses.
thanks in advance
Thaddeus
