Ignition Lock removal

Hi,

My lock is malfunctioning and I keep tearing keys - luckily I have not snapped one in the lock yet!

I understand that to remove the lock you need to put the key in position 1, then press the little button/pin on the back of the lock housing and then pull the lock out.

I'm really struggling pushing the button/pin in. Should it be stiff - any top tips for getting this to work in reality?

Failing that how would I drill the lock out without damaging the housing?
