How Do I Stop A Gas Thief 200 1992

My son has had his gas siphoned 3 times in the past 2 weeks from his 92DL. The car is parked on the street in front of his apartment(no other parking available). The thefts are taking place in the early morning hours. Someone advised us that these cars are very easy to siphon from.

The 1st 2 times there was no locking gas cap, this last time we had a locking gas cap on. The thief has been taking the gas caps also.

I tried to find the anti gas siphoning spring (available many years ago) you would slip down the gas filler neck at several auto parts stores and also online with no luck. Although I don't know if these would even work because the opening (where you insert the gas nozzle) is much narrower then the actual filler neck, so I don't know if you could even fit the spring down there.
Someone I talk too recommended balling up chicken wire or a 1/2 x 1/2 wire mesh fencing and shoving it down the filler neck to prevent a siphon house from being inserted. Don't really know if I like that idea.

I am getting really pissed and considering going on a stake out- however that would be a pain in the _ss.

Any ideas?
