Main Fuel pump fuse (fuse 6) hot then car quits 200 1991

My 1991 240 periodically quits on the highway. When I coast to a stop the main fuel pump fuse is hot and black on one end. The fuse is not blown. I put in a new fuse and the car starts. Some times if I wiggle fuse it affects start. Connection looks OK. This has happened several times over the last year. Starting to get annoying. Is this symptomatic of a fuel pump wearing out? Do I have bigh resistance some where? How do I find out where? Do I need to check current draw on pump? Does if vary at high and low speeds?
