Yesterday I had the day off so I started on the 244's cold low idle problem. I cleaned the IAC and while doing so noticed the little door that should flip back into place on its own wasn't going back on its own. I cleaned another IAC the day before for my neice and realized mine might be on its way out. Before getting the chance to start the engine to see if it helped I began another task of replacing the belts. Well I figured I might as well check the timing belt and noticed alot of oil behind the rear cover. Naturally I thought a seal was leaking but when I got the rear cover off they all seemed fine. I then spent many hours trying to get the timing marks to line up again after rotating the engine once. I swear the timing belt I replaced two weeks ago on another car would have the marks line up again. After too many times assembling and taking it back apart and putting the belt on again I finally read the small script in the bentley that said they won't line up after rotating the engine.
The reason I thought it was put on wrong it that the first time I put it all back together again and started the car it wasn't idleing right and would stall. Even when I rev'd the engine it seemed to be off and when driving around the block a few times it sounded like an occasional small backfire was occuring. I haven't started it since putting it back together because it was 2am when I finished. A nice 10 hour timing belt horror story that should have been over after at least 5. I'll be starting it here in a bit to drive to wal-mart to catch a ride to work. Any ideas? Thanks
