M46 Slave cylinder shooting fluid everywhere 700

Hey guys. It would appear that I ruined my slave cylinder tonight by accidentally letting it extend too far. It doesn't hold fluid anymore. I have a new one, but can I simply take the plunger out of the new one and slide it into place on the old cylinder?

Also, should the rear face of the plunger ever pass the outside of the slave cylinder housing?
