so... couple weeks ago, I was driving home, and the car cut out... nearly died.
managed to get a few more miles, cutting out now and again... then it died. Wouldn't start. Or was hesitant to start. My first thought was AMM.
Then I got it to start again, and I made it home with a few more cutouts.. but I made it.
Not knowing what was wrong, I've since not been driving this car to work. (30 miles of remote dirt roads.. don't want to get stranded). I have driven the car locally since, and it's been fine. So I've sort of ruled out the air mass meter.
I'm told the wiring at and near the big grey plug in the middle of the firewall can be problematic... and it has been. obviously has been repaired in the past. But I can wriggle and tug on that harness with the engine running, to no affect....
Any thoughts? Only other thing I just noticed is a ground strap off from firewall to engine (small braided wire to valve cover), but I doubt that could do it if it runs at all...
I'm at a loss.. what I'd like is any insights on how to replicate it's failure, so I can diagnose the problem... hard to fix or diagnose stuff that is working fine. I've been driving my new/old '71 164, which is a fine car, but it's got issues too.
Thanks for any insights...
