A couple weeks ago I had a problem where the car wouldn’t start – at first I thought it might be the starting motor but when I cleaned up the battery connections and tightened them down very snuggly, the car was running fine… for a couple weeks.
Two days ago it started hesitating while I was driving, like the engine was cutting out briefly, and it died at a stoplight (started right back up). Yesterday it had gotten much worse and the engine was struggling to idle and would die if I lifted my foot off of the accelerator for more than a few seconds. It would always start right back up though. It is also cutting out while I drive down the road but not dying.
In the past year I've replaced the spark plugs / wires, distributor cap, rotor, and fuel filter. About two years ago I replaced the rpm sensor and fuel pump relay.
My gas tank is probably three quarters full with premium gas, I have no reason to suspect the gas having water in it. Also, while I forgot to check for codes though I can say that the "check engine light" did not come on, I'll check it tonight.
Any ideas? I'm thinking that it could be the fuel pump but really I have no idea.
