Transmission linkage set screw stuck. 200

I'm trying to free the linkage from the shifter so I can drop the tranny.
Had to drill out the set screw. The little rod which holds the ball and the fork together is still frozen in there. Haven't been able to pound or pry it out after a couple of hours trying.
Is there a reason I shouldn't just grind it out and make a new one out of a nut and bolt with bushings and lock washers?
