My 1986 740 sedan made it about a half mile this morning a died on the road. After a couple minutes it started and ran about 90 seconds, then died and would not start again. Fuses were okay. I walked back to the house and returned with a fuel pump relay I had laying about, it was left over from a 240 I had awhile back. It is the same color (white) and had same plug configuration, but has different (part?) numbers molded on the top. Both have same little manufacturer insignia, a circle with what looks like an S and H overstamped, almost like a $ with two verticals instead of one.
So, the car started right up with this other relay.
The question is, is it really okay to use this one? Is my problem solved?
Or, is it working for now but not really right?
If it is working but not right, what can I expect to go wrong down the road?
Thanks.
