Hello all,
I have been asking quite a few questions here lately in prevision of a big interior job I was about to do, so it's time now to post some news in case anyone is interested.
Started last Saturday and I took 2 days off as I thought it was going to be done in 4 days but I was wrong. I took a bit longer because of a number of frustrating things but all in all, it turned out well.
At the beginning I wanted to install some poweer windows in my 1984 244 DL. Since I was going to install power windows, I needed new door panels, armrests. I then go the chance to buy from someone an almost complete black interior from a GL car of the same year, including door panels and armrests for the power windows, but also the rest of the trim, kick panels, quarter window covers, front console, glove box etc...etc...so it turned into a complete interior color swap as well.
And since I was going to pull the carpet to pass the wiring for the power windows and all the trim would be out, I also decided to add some insulation on the floor pan and everywhere I could.
At the same time, I also needed to install power mirrors.
I was worried about not being able to find black carpet to replace my brown one but after talking it over here I decided to keep it brown and I have to say it does look nice, and it will look even nicer when I get some black mats. The brown seats aren't great but they look alright with their black headrests.
So the whole job of gutting everything, laying down the insulation, the cabling, installing the power windows, mirrors and the rest, working out the trim took quite a bit of time.
I also took out the whole dash to paint it black, which turned out pretty nice as well.
Mounted the power mirror joysticks into the front console. I also took advantage of this project to prewire for future rear deck speakers and trunk release motor (there's a button in the new glove box but I haven't found the motor yet).
I haven't taken the car back on the road yet but I'm really happy with the results.
In any case, thanks to all who answered my questions on the brick board.
My back hurts now.
