I don’t look for them. They now come to me to me like lost, hungry little puppies. After a son’s two year stint with an un-maintained rusted out, falling apart, and leaking out school bus yellow 1978 244, M46, years ago, we had migrated to 940s and now have too many to mention, but not too many. The new one is a 1992 244GL, red with black cloth interior and a minimal amount of new Volvos problems. I could not resist the great condition and the low price.
Clear coat over the red paint is not peeling but very oxidized. At first glance, I thought the base coat was faded.
Black cloth interior is next to new.
Only 193k miles.
Items replaced within the last three years, both fuel pumps, front struts and the OD solenoid. The fuel issue was described as a fuse holder/plastic cracking/short issue. ???
The B230F seems to be lacking a few HP. I’ll zero mile the ignition system and replace the vacuum hoses. The PO said it should have gotten a little better gas mileage. It could also be combined with an aged O2 sensor.
Fix it now:
There is an exhaust leak in the axel pipe ahead of a newer muffler. I expect to see a welded on muffler.
The right side tail light is out. I’m not sure how to fix this. There is a flex circuit board that was replaced once several years ago to fix the problem. The PO had tried everything except another circuit board. Do these have reoccurring problems with the flex boards?
The inspection sticker is 5 months out of date. No emissions tests any more in NC but the tail light and exhaust pipe is an issue.
Electric driver’s side RV mirror won’t adjust up and down. Wouldn’t be a problem if the PO had been a little taller.
Fix it later:
The after market radio with a remote does not work. A remote? For a car radio? Where have I been?
A half dozen burned out interior lights.
Adjust the hand brake.
Squeaks in the front struts or the general area.
Wish me luck. I know 940s but not 240s. By the way, where is the 240 FAQ? No need to answer that.
