87-740 non diesel. Wife: 'smelled electrical burning when I turned selector to defrost'

I never smelled anything electrical burning, but:
In checking it out, the only thing that seems strange to me is the a/c compressor comes on immediately when I select defrost. Is this right? Or is it a short?
What was she smelling? Hmmm?
