Check Engine Light 200 1993

My check engine light came on the other day after my wagon stalled, so I posted a message asking if anyone had this problem. She started right back up, but still "konks" out on occasion. I got alot of great feedback, but one thing stood out, vaccum leak! After further investigation, I found a hole in the plastic hose that runs from the amm to the intake manifold. I scrounged up a new one, installed it and immediately took her for a test drive........"Check Engine" light is still on!@#* This might not have been "the" problem, but it was a future problem. My question is....if this were the problem, would the "check engine" light have gone off, or do I have to reset it somehow? Also, does anyone have any other suggestions?
