The old OEM type exhaust dropped a hanger. The local mechanic who normally just welds a repair felt that the rest of the system was now a bit weak so it wouldn't make much sense to strengthen one area only to have the next weakest spot break fairly soon.
I decided to order the sport kit from Skandix as several folks here have posted positive results with them. Unfortunately, the kits were on backorder and my daily driver was dragging tailpipe. Swedishtreasures had a Simons sport exhaust system in stock so I went for it.
The kit fit great and sounds a little throatier but not too loud at all. It was soon discovered that going over bumps at high speed caused the long resonator to bang against the frame below the rear footwell. :-( The only point of flexibility that could really be changed was the rubber double O support in front of the rear wheel well. I pulled one of the Simons rubber donuts and cranked in one of the smaller donuts from the old exhaust.
Took her out for a test drive over an old, hilly, pothole filled road. No more banging! The additional tension from the smaller rubber donut appears to keep the resonator from hitting the frame.
The larger exhaust definitely provides more top end power. Speed used to drop 10 mph on a long uphill highway grade on the way to work. Not only can speed be maintained now, but a bit of accelleration was managed. Oh yes!
No changes were made yet to the carb settings. Guess it makes sense to check though.
