New Cat Converter 89 245 wagon 200

My Cat Converter failed, rusted apart. I bought a new one from Walker NAPA $175. Had some trouble getting the 02 Sensor off, slightly dimpled the case of the sensor. (Could this damage or short it out)
when i started up the car the Check Engine light came on. It was never on before. I removed the sensor and noticed that I got some Anti sieze on the probe, I wiped this off. Disconected the Ground off the Bat to reset. I ran for about 40 Min. when the light came on again. I would like to check the sensor, but how do I lknow if my Digi-Volt meter has an impedance of at least 10 megohms?

I hate to think that by trying to save a little $$ by doing it myself I end up costing extra $$.
I suppose I could get an O2 sensor from a junk yard.
