For Sale: 1989 740GL 211k 700 1989

Hello everyone,

I’m selling this car because I just moved from Kansas to Washington state with my girlfriend to go to school, and we decided it would be easier to just take the moving truck with her car and leave mine at her parents house in Olathe, Kansas (a southwest suburb of Kansas City.) So, If you are the buyer of this car, I will mail you the keys and title, and tell you where you can pick it up at. If you want to see the car or start it up, let me know. (her parents have a key.) I'm asking $750.

This is a 1989 Volvo 740GL. It’s a B230F engine (fuel injection low compression version), 4 cylinder, 2.4L. Currently it has about 211,000 miles on it and still runs great!

This car also comes with an installed stereo system, with a Sony radio and tape deck, 2 pioneer speakers and a Jensen 88watt amp installed in the trunk (all purchased new about 5 years ago.) I also left a Sony portable CD player with the adapters in the car that still works for playing CDs.

There has been a lot of work done to this car in the past couple of months and years, so it is a great buy- I’ll try to cover as many details as I can.

Things that have been replaced, are new, good shape, etc. Most things that have been fixed or replaced on this car have paperwork and receipts in the glove box that have the dates on them. Right now I’m trying to remember everything.
-Tires are in good shape. They only have about 30,000 miles on them- they were replaced around 180,000 miles, and the treads on them are good.
-Fuel pressure regulator was replaced last month with a Volvo original part.
-Spark plugs were just changed.
-Rear brakes were replaced a couple of months ago, front brakes were replaced last year by firestone. I just had firestone do an inspection and check them out and they said back brakes are only 5% worn and front brakes are only about 40% worn. (report is in car)
-Crankcase ventilation filter, timing belt, pcv valve, crankshaft position sensor, one of the fuel pumps, oil cap seal, valve cover gasket, spark plug wires, and transmission shaft gasket and bushing have been replaced within the last 3 years. (within 40,000 miles)
-exhaust system on this car is brand new. The entire system was just replaced- the only thing that wasnt replaced was a small piece right next to the engine manifold.

What needs or may need attention on this car:
-As with a lot of these older Volvo’s the headliner isn’t sticking to the ceiling of the car anymore. It’s ripped in the back and held up with map pins in some spots.
-This car has air conditioning built into it, but it hasn’t worked while I’ve owned it, and I’ve never had a need to get it checked. My guess is that it probably just needs more refrigerant.
-Car came with cruise control, but it doesn't currently work. The bladder for the throttle rotted, so it's probably just a vacuum leak.
-The check engine light in this car is on. If you check the computer codes under the hood, it flashes 1-1-3, 2-3-1, and one other code- all of them do with fuel mixture adjustment/ lambda ratio, or leaking fuel injector. . The car is getting less mpg than it should, about 18 mpg, but so far I haven’t tracked down the source of this problem. My Volvo mechanic has checked everything he can think of related to this problem. He checked the mass airflow sensor, the O2 sensor, and some other things and they all checked out fine. Engine runs fine and has plenty of pickup.
-The firestone inspection shows that 2 of the tie rods need to be replaced. I think it’s the passenger inner and the driver outer. They were all replaced about 2-3 years ago, but 2 of them wore out. Causes a little bit of highway vibration.
-Windshield is cracked, one or two of the turn signal lenses is broken. (one or two have been repaired.)
-The horn doesn't work, but I bought a new air-horn for it that I left in the back seat. I just didn't have time to install it.
-And yes, it does leak some oil. (its an older car…)

I think that covers everything. If you have any more questions, you can email me(sirgareth_ at hotmail dot com) but calling me would be better. My cell phone # is 913-709-1240.

I have pictures that i can email you.

Thanks!
