Hi

I have a 1992 940 with auto trans (185,000k). When the car first starts up the trans shifts fine, but when hot it shifts hard into second, all others fine. I also noticed a delay when shifting into reverse, again when hot and not all the time. The engine will rev up then R will engage with a tire chirp. The kick down cable was adjusted not too long ago.

I just bought this car a couple of months ago (upgraded from a 85 240 dl) so I don't know how long the hard shift has been happening. I checked the fluid and it doesn't smell burnt, but I don't know when it was last changed - and it is over full. The level is above the plastic on the dip stick. Could this cause the problem? Any thoughts? I've already had to replace the a/c condenser and the cat converter. I hope this doesn't mean the trans is on the way out!
