PV door lock mechanism 444-544

Last night, while getting into the car to check my brake pedal, the door handle to the driver's door suddenly 'skipped' and failed to open the door. (Works fine form the inside). I didn't have the time to take off the door panel, and I won't be back to the car until Thursday.

Does anywone have any idea what might have broken (or come undone)? If this is a common problem and I likely need parts, I'd like to order them today so that I have a chance to fix it by the weekend. Many thanks for any suggestions.

Is anyone planning to attend Lyme Rock on Sunday? I'm still hoping...
