I recently acquired a '245' from the original owner, with only 88,000 miles.
It was/is not running though. The owner had let it sit for 6+ months while she was away. When she tried to start it, it bucked, stalled and would'nt idle. I have since emptied/replaced the gas (it smelled funky!), installed new spark plugs, replaced the fuel filter & main fuel pump. It still didn't have sufficient fuel pressure, so I had a local mechanic replace the in-tank fuel pump.
It now has good fuel pressure, but the mechanic says that the plugs are immediately fouled with gas every time it starts & promptly stalls out. Today he is going to attempt to adjust the air/fuel mixture (?he had me locate a specific
3mm allen wrench for this purpose). Would this be an adjustment to the air flow sensor?? Anyways, I've not heard from him so I'm assuming the car is still not running. He's stated that if this didn't fix the problem, he would'nt know what else to persue (he has no prior Volvo expr. - I live in a small town!).
So, I've since 'pounded' the repair manuals that accompanied the car. I came up with some possible repairs that might (?) pertain to the cars problem. However, the manuals only instruct on how to REPLACE, and do not offer info on how to (first) CHECK/TEST.
Should these items be considered to repair the car's symptoms; Fuel Distributor, Control Pressure Regulator, and Air Flow Sensor (is the 'line pressure regulator' contained within the 'fuel distributor'?)???. Any insight that I can share with my mechanic, as to how to CHECK/TEST these items would be greatly appreciated.
Any other parts that should be considered for diagnosis/repair???
Sorry for the long-winded explanation & request, but I'm kinda short on resources here locally!!!!
Gratefully, Brooks
