High brakelight intermittent failure 200 1990

The high brake light on my '90 240DL Wagon fails intermittently. I've tried everything I can think of, including making sure the socket is tight and slathering everything up with dielectric grease. When I tighten the contacts in the socket, it solves the problem, but only for a few weeks, then it goes intermittent again for a few weeks, then it fails, then I bend in the contacts in the socket again, then the light works again, and cycle starts over.

Any ideas?
